Following up our discussion of the characteristics of the international system, your next blog post assignment asks you to analyze opposing perspectives on the nature of the international system in the 21st Century.
The Essential Question you will be critically evaluating and writing a response to is:

Basically you are being asked to analyze the opposing arguments of the two authors, decide which one you agree with more, explain why, AND use that information to think critically about and respond to the Essential Question. This is challenging, but I know you guys can produce great work that shows deep critical thinking.

This post is due before class next Tuesday, so you have a lot of time.
In addition, you must read, annotate, and outline pp. 17-38 in the course text and submit your outlines via Google Drive.

- Will the international system in the 21st Century be unipolar or multipolar?
Specifically, you will need to do the following:
Preparation
- Make sure you thoroughly understand the concepts of balance of power and system polarity. Refer to the presentation on Google Drive and the course text, if necessary.
- Read and take notes on the two articles.
- Identify the main arguments and evidence each author uses.
Writing
Write an analytical blog post that
- Compares and contrasts the arguments of the two authors,
- Directly responds to the Essential Question, and
- Discusses what further information and evidence you might need to back up your argument.
- Really excellent posts should also consider the implications that system polarity, whether multipolar or unipolar, will have for managing conflict in the 21st Century.
